We at Deptford Township Public Schools feel that the safety and security of our students and staff is of the utmost importance. Your role as a parent/guardian and community member is extremely valuable. Be aware when you come to the school all doors are required to be locked.
You will be requested to show identification before entering the building. Please appreciate the request from office staff to secure the proper identification before granted entrance to the building. Please understand, in order to keep our building secure do not hold or prop the doors open for other groups or individuals trying to gain entrance. Upon gaining entrance to the building, you must report to the appropriate office for further assistance.
In order to have the most updated information, the Emergency Management Teams in our schools and throughout the district work with the local police, fire and emergency personal on a continual basis. We follow state guidelines and proper procedures for all types of fire and safety drills which are performed on a monthly basis. The practice of these drills helps the district prepare in the event of a true crisis. Each drill allows for the adults to debrief and recommend improvements to the procedures practiced or to the physical facilities in order to enhance safety. Students are familiar with all drill procedures. Teachers explain, in an age-appropriate manner the purpose of the drills and the importance associated with their practice.
In the event of a true crisis, proper security procedures will be implemented. Our first concern is for the safety of students and staff. We will make every effort to alert you to pertinent information through our automated phone system and district website. Therefore, it is important for you to keep emergency contact information updated at all times by contacting the main office of your child/children’s school(s).
During a true emergency situation, you can help by:
* Remaining calm and cooperating with the school and public safety officials
* NOT GOING TO THE SCHOOL. You will hinder the response time of emergency vehicles and personnel.
* NOT CALLING THE SCHOOL. Open phone lines are needed for emergency communications.
* Being Patient. You will be notified as soon as possible and told where, when and how to pick up your student(s).
These are guidelines and please understand that we welcome any feedback that may be of assistance. Please continue to help us monitor our progress and remain diligent in your observation while in or around our buildings. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact a building or district administrator.
