What is the Shady Lane PTA?
The Shady Lane PTA consists of parents, teachers and other community members who are dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of our children.
What does the Shady Lane PTA do?
The Shady Lane PTA is an almost constant presence at the school. We work behind the scenes to assist school administrators and teachers in providing quality education to our students. If there is a need, the PTA tries to fulfill it. We’ve provided small things like juice and snacks for events to t-shirts for the 5th grade D.A.R.E. program.
We also run several programs and fun events throughout the year to foster school and community awareness. Make sure you check the calendar for specific dates. Some of our most popular programs and events are:
. Halloween Skating Party
. Cookies & Milk with Santa
. Holiday Tables
. Book Fair
. Teacher Appreciation Week
. Fun Day
. Annual Yearbook
. Student of the Month/Acts of Kindness
We also run a number of fundraisers to fund these and the many other things that we do throughout the year.
. Restaurant Nights
If you want to make a positive difference in the lives of our children, we encourage you to become a member of the PTA. There is an annual membership dues of $5, which is split between the National PTA, the State PTA and our local Shady Lane PTA unit. Just complete the short membership application and return with your dues. You will receive a membership card and access to many PTA resources, such as the National PTA website (www.pta.org). You will also be entitled to discounts at retailers such as Barnes and Noble, MedicAlert, MetLife Auto & Home, Sharp, Southwest Airlines and T-Mobile.
The Shady Lane PTA holds monthly meetings where we discuss our budget, school happenings, upcoming events and share ideas and information – all in an hour or less.
We understand that life is busy, so we don’t require that you volunteer to become a member of the PTA. However, we would not be able to operate without the assistance of the many volunteers throughout the year. We have lots of choices, so we’re sure that you’ll find something that will appeal to your areas of interest or expertise and we’re willing to work around your schedule. This year, we are challenging members to volunteer for at least one hour per child at an event or activity (excluding meetings). Kids love to see their parents at events.
