Mrs. Sharon Mesmer serves as vice-principal of Monongahela Middle School (MMS). As part of the administrative team, Mrs. Mesmer supports the school’s vision for achievement and works with the teachers and students to ensure that the school climate is comfortable and conducive to supporting the academic, emotional, and social growth of MMS students. Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. Mrs. Mesmer’s believes in promoting a growth mindset where every child is free to grow and learn through their experiences, allowing them to have a positive impact on the world around them.
Mrs. Mesmer has 14 years of experience in education. Her experiences include eight years as a high school social studies teacher, as well as an online teacher and curriculum developer for the US Department of Defense and Canadian Ministry of Education in Ontario, Canada. Mrs. Mesmer also served as a paralegal for eight years prior to becoming a classroom teacher. Her experiences have provided her with a wealth of real world knowledge that has helped her guide her students toward becoming positive and productive members of society. Mrs. Mesmer has also served as a middle school field hockey coach and high school softball coach, where she was able to mentor student-athletes, helping them to achieve personal and team goals both in and out of the classroom.
Mrs. Mesmer holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Rutgers University and two master’s degrees in secondary education and administration and supervision from the University of Phoenix, as well as teaching certifications in elementary education and social studies.
