Mr. Jonathan Collins serves as principal of Monongahela Middle School (MMS). As the educational leader for MMS, Mr. Collins provides the vision for achievement and ensuring the school climate is comfortable and conducive to supporting the academic, emotional, and social growth of MMS students. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stated, “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character that is the goal of true education.” This is the foundation for Mr. Collins’ educational philosophy.
Mr. Collins has 20 years of experience in the Deptford Township Public School district. He has previously served as high school general business teacher and vice principal of both the high school and middle school. As an administrator, Mr. Collins was able to develop and implement major initiatives including the implementation of the Personalized Learning Period, the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program for both 7th & 8th grade, positive behavioral referral system, classroom management system, restorative practices, summer math packets, and the reference guide for emergency procedures that is utilized throughout the district. His interscholastic experience includes high school assistant football coach, head coach of track & field (both indoor & outdoor), and also strength & conditioning coordinator. As a coach at Deptford High School, he was able to not only teach but serve as a mentor for student-athletes.
Mr. Collins holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Morgan State University, a master’s degree in Business Administration from Rowan University, and a General Business Teacher Certification through Rowan University.
