This week, over 40 students and staff members volunteered their time to improve our community.
As part of the Clean Communities program created by the Gloucester County Improvement Authority, students and staff members spent several hours cleaning up Fox Run Road between Delsea Drive and Good Intent Road. The program provides grant funds to school districts while encouraging volunteerism. Funds from the program will go to support Deptford’s Project Graduation program for graduating high school seniors.
The students were supervised by high school staff Mrs. Grace Quinones and Mr. Ron Ruddy.
“This is a great opportunity to do something great for our community and show our students the importance of volunteerism,” said Quinones. “Even though some of the cleanup was around Deptford High School, everyone benefits from a cleaner community – this was bigger than just us and I know the students appreciated that.”
“This is what being an educator is all about,” added Ruddy. “It’s great to be able to work with our students outside the classroom and show them the value of community, and what being a dedicated citizen is all about. Taking their learning beyond the classroom is invaluable and this event is something that they will remember.”
