Pine Acres Promotes and Celebrates Reading

Students choosing books

This week, Pine Acres Early Childhood Center opened a little early to parents and students. Over 150 community members attended a Kindergarten Book Breakfast event. Full-day Kindergarten students had the opportunity to choose and read a new book with their parents that they could also take home as a keepsake from the event. After reading, the students and parents joined the staff in a celebratory breakfast.

The event was sponsored through a grant from the Deptford Education Association through NJEA’s PRIDE in Public Education program.

“These grade-level book breakfasts have become an annual event at Pine Acres,” explained Mrs. Jones, Pine Acres Principal. “This is a great way to promote reading and family involvement. We want our students and families to value the importance of becoming lifelong readers.”

“The students were really looking forward to this day,” said Mrs. Harder, Pine Acres Kindergarten teacher. “I love having the chance to build connections with students outside the classroom on something academic, but also fun. We care very much about the students and this is a great way to celebrate that along with their parents.”

Another Book Breakfast event will be held at Pine Acres this Spring.
