Elementary and early childhood students and staff recently had the opportunity to work with retired teacher and reading/writing specialist and consultant Ms. Terri Griffin. Griffin, who is also a professor at Rowan University, spent time reading with students and helping them highlight important textual details to craft creative and targeted essays.

The program offering was setup by Mrs. Tiffany Bradley, Instructional Supervisor for Elementary Education.

“Our elementary and early childhood students and staff are doing amazing work with everything they do, especially in regards to writing,” noted Bradley. “We hope that this style of professional development offers the staff some insight into different strategies to consider as they approach reading and writing on informational text. We were able to provide the staff with quality time to observe with Ms. Griffin and later discuss the use of mentor texts to teach writing strategies in order to differentiate instruction for varying grade levels and classroom settings.”
