Mr. Kevin Kanauss has been serving Deptford Townships Schools since September of 2006. Kevin’s first year was as a long-term substitute for science at the middle and high schools. The following year, he was hired as a mathematics teacher at the middle school where he taught 8th grade mathematics and Algebra I for 5 years. Kevin also coached on the high school baseball team for 6 years and advised the National Junior Honor Society at the middle school for 4 years. In 2012, Kevin was promoted to Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction. During his time as a supervisor, he started our Academies of Engineering and Biomedical Sciences, enhanced the Spartan School of Business, began the articulation partnership with Rowan College of Gloucester County, aligned curriculum and assessments to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards, and helped teachers and students grow academically. Kevin was then promoted to Director of Curriculum and Instruction in January of 2018. As director, Kevin served as the district assessment coordinator, worked with new and experienced supervisors to enrich curriculum, instruction, and assessment, managed the federal title funds for the district, and provided resources and professional development to assist teachers and administrators in increasing student achievement. In August of 2018, Kevin was promoted again to our Chief Academic Officer of the district. In his new role, Kevin assumes many familiar responsibilities of the director of curriculum position but now serves the district in many new capacities such as teacher and administrator evaluations, school choice, and tasks with the board of education.
Mr. Kanauss believes that all of the students, teachers, and administrators in the Deptford Township School District are educational leaders! They inspire one another every day to do great things, learn from one another, and achieve beyond their own expectations. As the Chief Academic Officer, Kevin will continue to assist the entire school community in their personal and academic growth and provide as much service and support to help everyone succeed in the district. He is still an educator at heart and is filled with pride when students, teachers, and administrators succeed!
Mr. Kanauss lives in Logan Township, NJ with his wife Heather, and his three children (Reagan, Keaton, and Kellan). He enjoys spending time with his family, playing baseball, and coaching his sons’ and daughter’s teams in baseball, softball, and flag football. Did you know? Kevin is also a varsity-certified basketball referee and baseball umpire.
