My name is Dr. Charles R. Ford Jr., and I was unanimously voted to be the next Superintendent of Deptford Township Schools on May 18, 2015. I am certified as an elementary teacher, principal, supervisor, and Chief School Administrator. I have held many positions in multiple school districts over the past fifteen years that have given me solid leadership experience as a K-12 Superintendent of Schools.
Prior to coming to Deptford Township, I was the Superintendent at Monmouth Regional High School for the past six years. Before joining the Monmouth Regional School District, I was the Principal at Roosevelt Elementary School in South Plainfield for four years. In addition, I was appointed Assistant Principal at South Plainfield High School. I have also worked in the Irvington Public School system where I completed three years as an Assistant Principal at the Union Avenue Middle School. Additionally I taught third and fifth grade at the district’s Chancellor Avenue School.
My educational background consists of a Bachelor’s of Arts in Sociology from Rutgers University and a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from Saint Peter’s College in Jersey City. In 2013, I completed my studies at Nova Southeastern University and received my Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership.
An expansive career in education spanning over fifteen years at various levels and positions has helped me to develop my philosophy of what it takes to be an effective school leader. These ideas have morphed and evolved throughout many professional experiences. What once was a vision statement has now grown into a personal mini philosophy. I work my hardest to function within the boundaries and parameters of this philosophy which ultimately drives thoughtful decision making practices that I am charged with each day.
I truly believe that the students I help to educate will be the pillars of our future. For these reasons, I am unwaveringly dedicated to the belief that every student has the ability to learn and craves knowledge. Not everyone is able to become a doctor, lawyer or a teacher, but every individual has a place in life. My role is to help, support, and guide students in determining what success means to them on their own terms. I believe that with high expectations, structure and innovative discipline our students can be shown that consequences are a fact of life. These consequences can be positive, which will reward them for their appropriate behavior, and also negative, which can help students understand and correct unacceptable behavior. My personal motto is-, “Do the best I can to help as many as I can.” With my own personal yearning for knowledge as a life-long learner and an innate determination to achieve success, I know that I can be an effective role model, administrator and educational leader for the students and families of the Deptford Township School District.
